WoW - Wallpaper of the Week

Tuesday has two birthdays of interest.

First for your consideration is the 38-year-old Whoa! kid Joey Lawrence. Yeah, he goes by Joseph now, but he'll always be Joey to me. Don't like the bald look, but he does get more impressive, the older he gets. The next brother down turned out nice too, but the youngest, not so much. To me, anyway.

Shemar Moore turns 40, and is still sumptuous. He was on The Young and the Restless for a few years. You can see him now (not nearly as shirtless, sadly) on Criminal Minds.

In Memoriam

Jonathan Brandis, why? What could possibly have been going through your head to make you want to kill yourself? Loved you in The NeverEnding Story sequel, Stephen King's It and seaQuest DSV. You had so much going for you, so much potential, so much you could have done with your life. He would have been 34 today. I made the collage above just after he passed. Because some things deserve commemorating. It'll never make sense. Like River, truly a waste of talent.

Flashback

So Robert Conrad made me realize there was something that I liked about guys more than girls. But love, true puppy love, came in the form of David Cassidy, who turns 60 today.

Has it been that long since The Partridge Family. Let's see, it was on from '70 to '74... good lord, it's been 40 years. Oh, the time, she flies.

Sometimes I wonder when Mom "knew". I came out to her when I was 15. But years before, when my parents gave me my first record player, the records they gave to go with it were by The Monkees, Bobby Sherman, and The Partridge Family. I know Dad didn't pick those. Still have some of those vinyl discs, including the 45 for the one above. I think I played Cherish to death.

David's still going, doing shows and performing. If I ever met him, I'd probably try to be dignified, but wind up acting like a pre-teen fanboy. Some crushes, you never get over.

Belated natal wishes to Alec Musser, whose birthday was yesterday. He's an actor/model, who won a role on All My Children during the second season of I Wanna Be a Soap Star. Not seen any of his work, he caught my eye whilst trolling through the Soaphunks site. He does make nice wallpaper.

Tomorrow is Kyle Howard's birthday. He's always been a busy boy, starting acting whilst young. Turned out OK, unlike too many other child actors. I was surprised to find he was in an early DeCoteau flick, Skeletons. First think I saw him in, I do believe, was Grosse Pointe. Now he's a regular on My Boys. I wouldn't complain if he were my boy.

I've got the news

So I was listening to Lex and Terry last week, and I found out something that's been bugging me since I started listening to the show. Whenever Peter does the news, it always starts with a clip of someone singing the line "I've got the news, bound up in a paper bag." I couldn't find out anything about who sang it. But last week, they were reminiscing and they mentioned that the line was sung by Taint, of all people. Apparently he wrote a song and performed it on the show sometime back. They played more of the song, and I couldn't decide if it was decent or dreadful. It didn't sound like Taint at all. At least that's one of the great mysteries of the universe solved.

Flashback

Dennis Quaid is 56 today. Let me repeat that. The man you see above is 56. I've heard it said that 40 is the new 30. Dennis is evidence that maybe 50 will be the new 20!

The first thing I remember him in (vividly) is 1984's Dreamscape. One look at him shirtless and seeing that mad sexy body made me feel all tingly. Or something. It was good, whatever it was. Yumm-o! And the older he gets, the more rugged and hunky he becomes. Let's hope it never stops. More musings about Dennis here.

WoW - Wallpaper of the Week

Two soap opera guys this week. Not seen the shows they're on, but like most men of that ilk, they is pretty to look at.

First is Adrian Bellani, from my old hometown, birthday on Thursday. He appeared on Passions for a while, in a role originated by Jesse Metcalfe. Maybe I should have watch that one, since it also had one of my favorite guys on it for several years. You can see some more of Adrian here, here and here.

Thursday is Austin Peck's birthday. He was on Days of our Lives for quite a few years, then did As The World Turns for a shorter time. He's also known from his Playgirl (non-nude) spread. Further exposure can be seen here, here and here.

DDoM - DeCoteau Dude of the Month

Presenting the star of the classic Voodoo Academy, the movie that started DeCoteau on the guyploitation train, Riley Smith, born on March 12th. This wasn't the first movie he did with David, though, having worked with him on Alien Arsenal. He's reunited with a couple of his Voodoo costars subsequently. They being Huntley Ritter in Bring It On and Ben Indra in Raising Dad. His bit in Not Another Teen Movie still makes no sense to me, but there was lots of Chris Evans, including the classic banana scene, so it's all good.

Riley's managed to stay well employed. Didn't realize he'd done the Olson twins movie with Jared. He's even done a couple of DeCoteau-esque films, Eight Legged Freaks and Spring Break Shark Attack. Not to mention the wicked little short film The Plight of Clownana (viewable here).

Next month, another Voodoo dude, whom you may recognize.

WoW - Wallpaper of the Week

This week there's two Jam-ming birthdays.

Saturday it's Jamie Bamber, a/k/a Apollo in the "re-imagined" Battlestar Galactica. Which I could never get into, what with the jiggly cinema verite camerawork and the dark depressingness of it all. Mind you, they did have a few hot guys, Jamie amongst them. After Galactica, he's went on to do Law & Order: UK, which did well enough it's first season to have a second, which should air next year. In England, of course. When we'll see it here stateside, who knows.

Then on Sunday, James Roday has his birthday. You probably know him from Psych. And if you've never seen the show, watch it, it's great, and he's great in it.
