WoW - Wallpaper of the Week

It's a two-fer Tuesday, with both offerings this week turning 37 tomorrow.

We'll start with Neil Patrick Harris. Who knew Doogie the forehead would grow up to be this fine and funny? Or that he was gay? Another one for our side, hurrah! He's great on How I Met Your Mother. And if you haven't seen Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, go here and watch it immediately.

Greg Vaughan came to my notice on Charmed. Wish he'd been on longer, but he lasted a season, which is more than most. He went on to do The Young and the Restless, then got a nice long running gig on General Hospital as Lucky Spencer. Long may he soap. See more of Greg here and here.

Flashback

Whatever happened to Andrew Stevens, who'll be 55 today? It seems he's become quite the prolific producer, actually.

I probably first saw him in 1978's The Fury. That was back when I went to movies like crazy, from 1977 through the early '80's. Andrew struck me as almost too pretty for words. He was still pretty ten years later on Dallas, and in between on Battle of the Network Stars.

He's not stopped acting, but just does it less. I hadn't realized until I looked him up on IMDB how much stuff he's done behind the camera. Pretty don't last forever, so it's nice to know he's smart too.

Glee - Journey's End (until the fall)

What a beautiful episode. It's so refreshing to see a show actually wrap up story lines at the end of a a season, and Glee did so with several, very satisfyingly. About the only low point for me was the Vocal Adrenaline performance of "Bohemian Rhapsody". It was so stagey and artificial. Technically done well, but the feeling was lacking. It's everything I hate about Riverdance and Celtic Woman and all that kind of stuff.

The high point was near the end, when New Directions sings... no, I won't spoil it. You can watch it yourself. I'll just say it's a song from a '60s movie, and is perfectly placed, plotwise. And if you're like me, you'll bawl like a baby. I just watched it again, and the tears, they were a-flowin'. Can't wait until the fall. Plus they'll be adding John Stamos to the cast! The show keeps getting better and better.

WoW - Wallpaper of the Week

Today is Kiwi Karl Urban's birthday. He's most likely known now for playing Éomer in the The Lord of the Rings films and Bones in that movie. But I'll always think of him as Cupid on Hercules and Xena. As a blonde, he's blistering. And I can't get over how tiny his waist was. Or were his shoulders just that wide. Mmmmm. He also played Julius Caesar, which is as diametrically different as you can get from Cupid. Man's got chops. Before all that, he was, like young Adam, on the long-running New Zealand soap Shortland Street.

Thursday Jonathan Bennett will be celebrating. He did some early work on All My Children, playing JR Chandler. Not bad, considering some of the other guys who've played him. It looked like he'd go big after Mean Girls. I remember him from Love Wrecked, which I watch sporadically for Chris, but found myself liking Jonathan better. Then he became prequel guy, doing the ones for Dukes of Hazzard and Van Wilder. Not good, when the only work you can get is straight-to-DVD. Boy can do better, so here's hoping. More to see here.

Parker Stevenson. There's a name that takes me back. I probably started watching The Hardy Boys because Shaun was in it, but I quickly fell for Parker. He being the more manly of the two, yet with the perfect hair. I hadn't seen him before in Lifeguard, and missed him later during the first few seasons of Baywatch. He did appear, thank goodness, on Battle of the Network Stars, for which, much thanks to TPTB.

DDoM - DeCoteau Dude of the Month

Don't know anything about Dominick Monteleone, except that he's appeared in more DeCoteau movies than anyone except Jason-Shane Scott, and is around 21 according to his MySpace account. He's a recent discovery of David's, as all the movies he's done were made in '08 and '09. Boy's done some modelling too. Which is understandable, with a body like that.

Flashback

The first thing I saw Gregory Harrison (who's 60 today) was Logan's Run, the TV series. It was part of the whole post-Star Wars SF bonanza. Which produced mixed results. The show didn't even last a season, but Gregory almost immediately after landed a regular role on Trapper John, M.D.. Ah, Gonzo Gates...

Let's not forget Battle of the Network Stars, on which he appeared 4 times during his early Trapper years. Greg in a speedo, now that's entertainment.

While he was working on Trapper, though, he starred in what readers of this blog are more likely to remember him for. That being the lead in the 1981 made-for-TV movie For Ladies Only. As if Gregory Harrison as a male stripper wasn't enough, they added the hotness that was Marc Singer to the mix. Humina-humina, and again, humina!

You know, if it hadn't been for For Ladies Only, there may not have been the "classic" A Night in Heaven. The world would have been a poorer place without those two cinematical gems, doncha know.

Two guys who, imho, should be shirtless as often as possible.

Philip Olivier birthday is Friday. He's another Brit who, like one of last week's offerings, is very gay-friendly. He even went so far as to host the Mr Gay UK competition in 2005, and played a gay character the following year. Love a straight guy that is that secure in his sexuality. The fact that he's got a body that won't quit is purely incidental.

What? What are y'all laughing at? No, really, what?

I forgot about the Doctor Who connection. Philip did several audio plays for Big Finish as a Seventh Doctor companion.

This Saturday sees Mark Wahlberg another year older. Here's a guy with a body that won't quit and can't be fired. Now that he's a serious thespian, he doesn't go shirtless nearly as often. But he has offered us years to appreciate the effort he made to get that body, as far back as the Marky Mark days. And he still shows it off occasionally. We'll be appreciating him for years to come, methinks.
